Prepress is the starting point once we have received your project in a final file, hard copy or a blend of digital and hard copy. Prepress prepares your job for output to your finished piece.

Mac and PC Compatible

Whether you create your project on a Mac or PC, we can work with, output and print from your files. We invest continually in having the most current hardware and operating systems, and most importantly, qualified people to work in either platform to ensure a successful project.

Professional Design Software

We support all professional design software. We know you have a preference in layout and design applications, so we have made sure we have them all and are capable of working with all your files. So, whether you use Quark, InDesign or Microsoft based software, we are compatible. We have the know-how to use your file.

PDF

Our workflow is PDF based and we welcome your PDF files. If you would like to submit PDF files of your project to us, just give us a call or e-mail us and we will help you. Prepress can be reached at 630-705-6464 x112 or at prep@impressionsunltd.com.

FTP or E-mail

Send your project to us as an e-mail attachment to prep@impressionsunltd.com , or if your files are too large for e-mail, use our ftp site that you can access here.

Proofs – Color Match, B&W and PDF

Proofs show your project in its finished state as to color, size and construction. Proofs are the key to a successful project. We work diligently and continually to match our press and digital output to the proofs you will receive. Our color proofs are 95% calibrated to presses and for your project you will receive a color match proof as well as a color dylux for project construction. For all B&W project a hard proof will be provided. PDF proofs are used for client alterations and in a few cases as the original proof.

Hybrid Screening

Our output of your project uses a hybrid screening process at 175 lpi. What is hybrid screening? It uses the best of stochastic and traditional line screening technologies by employing stochastic technologies to the shadows and highlights while the midtones are output in the traditional line screens. The result is continuous tone simulated quality.

Computer To Plate, CTP

No film or harmful chemistry has been used to make printing plates at Impressions Unlimited since 2003, when a Presstek Computer To Plate system was installed. Directly from the final file that proofs are created, so too are the printing plates using 175 lpi hybrid screening without any chemistry used. The plates are washed with water in preparation of being mounted on our 6 color MAN Roland 306 press with aqueous coaters.
